Attack & Defend *
An ongoing project about my experience of body dysmorphia (BDD), and always aiming for full life force, but needing to defend against incoming attacks to my confidence and self-perception.
Inspired by
Wanting to find a way to express BDD in a visual form, while also experiencing DIY therapy from the creative process.

Dressing for Joy

Dressing for Joy *
It’s about wearing what feels good, celebrating real bodies, enjoying second hand or well-worn clothes with a story, autistic joy and sensory comfort. It’s a regular practice to counter any negativity associated with self-image and instead, a supportive idea to help feel comfortable.

It’s my approach to dressing and part of my mental health toolkit that I use to deal with BDD. I wanted to put a name to the approach to help to formalise it, and embed it in my everyday.

Around 2012. I’ve photographed friends in their joyful outfits and interviewed them. I think about the phrase every day when I’m getting dressed and trying to overcome self-perception demons - it helps.
